RiverCityMalone.com (RCM) is a discussion forum on the issues that matter in Malone and surrounding region.  Simple as that.  We aim to cultivate what’s vibrant and interesting about this little town and region, chiefly through editorials, feature articles, letters to the editor and other reader commentary.

Letters to the Editor & Reader Comments 

An essential ingredient of community is ample, courteous, and vigorous discussion of local issues, or nonlocal issues which nevertheless substantially impact the community.  In this spirit RCM offers a letters to the editor section along with reader comments to editorials and feature articles. 

Ground Rules 

A few rules for letters to the editor and reader comments.  (These are given in more detail in Terms of Service.  By using RiverCityMalone.com you acknowledge your agreement to our Terms of Service.) 

• letters and comments should be on-topic and not abusive. Make your point quickly and politely. Debate, but don’t attack. Be courteous. Use respectful language.  Avoid tirades.

• we will not tolerate personal attacks, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity (including expletives and letters followed by dashes), commercial promotion, impersonations, and SHOUTING (all caps).

• we value thoughtful commentary representing a range of views. Letters and comments should be an exchange of intelligent and informed commentary that enhances the community.

• don’t flog the issue with endless comments.

• we welcome strong opinions of our work, but we don’t want comments to become bogged down with discussions of our policies.

• you are solely responsible for the content of your letters, comments, and ads.

• yes, definitely use your real name when making a comment. Either your name or initials. Experience shows that people who use their real names carry on more engaging, respectful conversations. For privacy reasons we recommend against using your full email address.
