Posting Personal Ads
Follow these steps for posting your Personal ad:
(1) Scroll down to the bottom of the Personals page to find Post an Ad. (Yes, all the way to the bottom of the ads.) Items marked with an asterisk are required.
(2) Fill in your Name. It can be your real name or “Anonymous” or a fake name–doesn’t matter.
» By calling yourself “Anonymous” or using an assumed name, you remain anonymous even to RCM (which, by the way, has no interest in knowing who you are).
(3) Fill in your Email Address. Your ad confirmation will be emailed to whatever address you provide here.
(4) Check the box, Display email link with ad, only if you don’t want your name & email home address included in your ad.
» If you called yourself “Anonymous” and leave Display email link with ad unchecked, RCM will know only your email address, not your name.
(5) Leave the Phone Number box blank. If you want to include a phone with your ad, put the phone number in the ad itself.
» Note: If you insert a phone number here, your name and phone number will show up in the posted ad, even if you unchecked Display email link with ad. So, don’t put in a phone number, unless you want both your name & phone in the ad. On the other hand, the name you use can be a fake name, in which case your fake name and phone number would show in the ad.
(6) Ad Title: This title will appear above the posted ad.
» If your confirming email keeps getting caught in your spam filter, and you don’t know how to add info@rivercitymalone.com to your Safe Sender’s List, you can bypass the spam filter by giving your ad a different title, one that won’t appear suspicious to your spam filter. As you will see, below, later on you can edit your ad and change back to your original title.
(7) Insert the photo of your choice in Photo.
» Do this by clicking on the Browse button. This takes you to your Desktop, where you can navigate your way to any photos you have downloaded onto your computer–probably in the folder labeled My Pictures in My Documents. Click on a JPEG (.jpg) of the photo and it will upload to your posting.
» If you are unfamiliar with downloading photos onto your computer–where to find them on the Internet, how to download them from the Internet, and so on–email Calvin Luther Martin at rushton@westelcom.com and I will walk you through it. It’s easy.
(8) Type your ad text in the box, Ad Text. This is where you include your contact email for public display and, if you wish, your phone number.
» Don’t worry, you will have the opportunity to edit your text any time after the ad is posted.
(9) Read the Terms of Service for RCM and, if you agree to them, put a checkmark next to I have read and agree to TOS.
(10) Click on Post Ad.
(11) You will now get a new screen with a notice at the top saying you have been sent a confirming email. Check for it in your email Inbox.
» If you don’t receive an ad confirmation, it’s because either you mis-typed your email address or the confirming email was seqestered by your email server’s spam filter. In the latter event, you can go into your Safe Sender’s List in your Junk Email Settings and add info@rivercitymalone.com to your Safe Senders. If this is beyond your technical ability, you can bypass your spam filter by using the work-around explained in #6, above.
(12) When the confirmation email arrives, scroll down the page and click on the URL where it says Confirm Ad. Voila, you’re done!
» On the other hand, if you want to edit your ad, click on the link that says Edit Ad. This will bring you back to your original posting, where you can edit to your heart’s content.
» You can also change your photo at this time, if you wish. If you leave the Photo box empty and merely edit your ad text, your ad will retain its original photo. I.e., your photo changes only if you insert a new photo in Photo.
(13) When you’re done editing, click Post Ad once more.
» You will have to refresh your ad in order to see the changes you made. (Either click the refresh button on your toolbar at the top of your window, or close and re-open RCM.)
(14) Be sure you keep your confirmation email. It allows you to edit your ad as long as it’s posted. It also allows you to remove it whenever you wish.
» A reminder that you can change your photo at any time, simply by going back into Edit Ad in the confirming email and repeating the Browse process next to Photo.
(15) Your ad will run for 7 days, after which it is automatically deleted.
» If you wish to run it longer, go back into your confirming email before the ad expires and click Renew Ad for another 7-day run.
(16) Any problems, email Calvin Luther Martin at rushton@westelcom.com for help.
